Our story

We are three Bay Area founders who kept watching the same thing: someone buys a rack or a tent online, it arrives in a 60 lb box, and it either does not fit the car or never gets installed. The gear was fine. The last mile was missing.

So we built the last mile first. Our own warehouses in South San Francisco, Los Angeles and Kansas City. Our own vans running dense routes across the Bay. Our own technicians with torque wrenches. And a store that refuses to sell you something that will not fit — the fit check runs before the price, and the rule that produced the verdict is printed under it.

The products come from factory partners in China we have worked with for years, quality-checked in California, backed by a warranty we honor from here.

Why the name: a bear hug is strong and warm at once, which is how gear should hold your car and how we want to treat you. The X is how we think: across scales, across dimensions, from first principles to the story you remember.

The Driveway Crew

Bay Area households with an SUV, EV or pickup who get outside on weekends (e-bikes, vehicle camping) and would rather have gear fitted right than wrestle a 60–135 lb box.

  • Demo Weekend: one parking-lot Saturday a month: see a rooftop tent open, test a rack on your own car. NorCal has no overland expo; this fills the gap.
  • The Fit Library: every car we fit adds a verified row anyone can check before buying.
  • Install day photo: your car, your gear, posted only with your permission.
